Windows 98 Upgrade

Upgrade to Windows 98

Before you upgrade to Windows 98, make sure you have the minimum requirements: Pentium-166, 24MB RAM and 200MB disk space. Next, back up all important files and clear out your Recycle Bin, browser cache and Windows\temp folder. Run any diagnostics you can as well. To do this, double-click on the My Computer icon, and right-click on the C:drive icon. Next, select Properties, Tools, then click on the Check Now button under Error-Checking Status. Just in case you have trouble with your new operating system, create a backup system disk. To do this, insert a blank disk into your floppy drive, select the Start menu, Settings, then Control Panel. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, then choose Startup Disk, and click on the Create Disk button. In final preparation to upgrade, disable your antivirus software and close all applications except Explorer and Systray. When you're ready to begin installation, insert the Windows 98 CD, and follow the step-by-step instructions. Be sure to save your existing files in case you want to reinstall your old system. Also, be sure to create a start-up disk with your new operating system. When the installation of Windows 98 is complete, restart your computer.
